Reagan’s 5th Birthday Party
This year Reagan decided she wanted a birthday party at Chuck-E Cheese. Now Chuck-E is a good 30 minutes from the house so this meant a small party with just a few of her closest friends. It was was a bit crazy at times. But the kids had a blast. Her actual birthday was about a month ago but with spring break, Boston, etc. the party was a little late. How cool to have your birthday spread out so long.
Here is the special hat for the birthday girl. Complete with tokens and all!
She also got a birthday girl medal. Note the birthday girl licking frosting off her hands. You’ll notice the cake has some frosting missing…
We got our own birthday table right up front. Along with our own party girl. Which helped out enormously given that there were 8 kids and only two parents.
Reagan got a visit from the Big Cheese himself.
Blowing out the candles!
Here’s the whole gang.
Everything went really well until the crazies set in. Then it was time to head home. Another great party. Happy 5th Birthday Reagan!
Here is some video of the big event.

Colorado Kids Race 2010
Reagan is a diva! Race morning and she doesn’t want to get out of bed. I am too tired. My leg hurts. I drug her downstairs and put her breakfast in front of her. This is the normal deal. I knew things would warm up as race time approached. However, the whines continued on the drive down to the race. Like a person with tourettes in the backseat. I turned on the charm when we arrive and carried her to registration. Where does your leg hurt, honey? I rubbed it telling her I know how to massage. We got the schwag bags and Reagan threw hers on her back and took off — there were booths with games and that got her excited. She was off playing ring toss, getting her face painted, answering healthy eating trivia and more. I got her some snacks and she was scarfing them down. Something clicked.
As they started making the announcements, Reagan was all ready. When is my race? I am ready. At first she didn’t want to race and now its taking too long. She was fired up so I got her in the starting corral and left her to her own demise. Looking down the chute I saw that she had made her way to the front of the line. Ready to go with the boys. She decided to wear her sunglasses because they made her faster she said.
They took off at the start and she had the biggest smile. She was running her full speed and not looking back. The usual deal is that you have to pace yourself because most kids go off the line too quick and burn out in 100 feet. However, she held it and was following a lead group of boys quite nicely. It was only a 1/4 mile race so they were around the cone and headed back in no time.
Kim pulled off some good action shots. Both feet off the ground. Pro!
I caught up with her at the start of the finish chute and cheered her in while running along side her. She was still firing on all cylinders. Same speed as she started off. Holding strong. She crossed the line and stopped. She was so excited! We don’t quite know since these aren’t timed but it looked like she was top 10 or so. It was quite an impressive finish I must say. Running the entire time and doing it at what I think was a pretty solid pace for her.
She was so proud of the finish. She ran to Kim and showed her the ribbon and then got sort of cocky about how good she did. Telling us about how she ran the whole way and how fast she is. The good thing was that she wasn’t lying! All through the rest of the day she would tell me stories about the race. About how this boy lined up next to her and she gave him “sideways eyes” (like a competitor glance) to size him up. I beat that boy, she told me. Really? She picked the kid out and was sure to be sure she cleaned his clock. Whoa. We have a wild one on our hands here. Grandpa Coburn was in town so he got to see all the action from the front row. Not sure he realized the budding athletes we have on hands here.
Later, she wanted the bib off her shirt while playing at the playground. I mentioned that people will no longer tell her congrats because they won’t know she raced today. She went on to explain that she would tell them she did race. She would promise to them. And they could tell probably because she was all sweaty.
That night she told me she wasn’t going to race again for a while. Her leg hurt again. Sure. I rubbed it a bit and she went to bed. A successful race day I must say. I am sure she will be back out there again. She smells victory.

Lots of good action shots in here frame by frame to see the big action!
Not sure if my role was Dad, coach or sports psychologist but we got it done!

Grandparents Day
Today was the big RMCA Day/Grandparents Day at the girls school. We had a special guest in town for the big event. Grandpa Coburn called the school nearly daily last winter to find out when they would be holding Grandparents Day this year. He didn’t want to miss the big event yet another year.
Reagan had a blast showing her classroom and various art projects off to Grandpa. I think he was impressed.
Of course we got a shot with her teachers, Mrs. Gerding and Mrs Weeks. Another great school year is almost at a close.

Kindergarten Ready
Reagan had her big test for kindergarten last week and she was very nervous about her results. She definitely has the smarts for kindergarten. Her problems rest in the whininess department. Apparently she still talks “baby talk” a lot in class and cries for Mommy when she gets upset. So we have been working on the big girl voice and no crying in school.
So this letter came in the mail this week. “Congratulations, you have been accepted into our kindergarten program for next school year.” Woohoo! She is even in the afternoon class with all her best buds. Way to go Reagan. We knew you could fool, I mean impress the teachers.

Buzz Costume
Sydney and Reagan have decided to make costumes for all of the characters from Toy Story. Can you guess who this is? I’ll give you a hint. He can shoot lasers out of his wrist bands.
