Permalink Easter 2011

It’s Easter time once again. This year we decided to play it low key and stay home. We had a busy weekend planned with it also being Reagan’s birthday. On Saturday we hit our two local egg hunts once again. As always is was cold but that didn’t stop our hunters.

Of course we also colored Easter Eggs. The two big girls seemed as though they were growing tired of this craft so I see colored eggs coming to a close for these two. A sad day.

Since this weekend was also Reagan’s birthday she had the pleasure of bringing Mr. Lizard home from school. This is a big deal in kindergarten. You get to do all sorts of fun activities with Mr. Lizard, take pictures, and then write an entry about what the two of you did together. Mr. Lizard chose a great weekend to visit us. He helped color Easter eggs….

and even got to meet our two new neighbors. 3 day old baby calves. They were kind enough to give him a “cowback” ride.

Sunday morning the girls awoke to find their Easter baskets filled with goodies. Reagan scored some more Squinkies from the easter bunny. As well as a chocolate bunny. One of her favorite treats.

The weather man predicted snow this morning so the Easter Bunny opted to hide his eggs all over the house. So the kids searched all three floors for hidden bunny surprises. As always the egg hunt was the best part of the day.

Permalink Reagan Turns Six!

Our baby turned six today. I can’t believe it. This year Reagan was especially excited for her birthday because….
1) Her birthday is also Earth Day
2) Her birthday is on Good Friday this year
3) There was no school in observance of #2 AND
4) apparently when you turn 6 you are now a real BIG girl.

Also at six you can now keep secrets and you can play by yourself at the playground and not be sad that no friends are with you. This is a big deal!

The big gift this year was Squinkies. Here she is with the few Mommy got her. The big deal is to collect as many as you can. So the hunt is on.

Permalink Mount Sanitas

We are starting to get a few glimpses into warmer weather. So Dad thought this was a great opportunity to take his girls for a hike in Boulder. The choice for today would be Mommys’ nemesis, Mount Sanitas. We enjoyed the initial part of the climb playing with all the puppies. There were too many to count. Their owners would stop and let us play with their dog while they expressed constant concern over the fact that our dog looked like he was about to die. Poor Mr. Wyatt hung in there all day but he is definitely showing his age.

We hadn’t been hiking for too long before Reagan wanted a picture of how high she was. Unbeknownst to her we still had a ways to go.

Here you can see the girls tackling part of the reasoning for the nemesis title. When you have a bad knee millions of vertical odd shaped steps do not make for a comfortable day.

We kept motoring on and the kids even made time to pose with the scenery.

As we were nearing the top we came across a large rock formation. Kayla was now demanding to use her own legs so we unloaded and took a short break. The big kids took this opportunity to do some rock climbing.

Upon further exploration the girls also found an eagle painted on the rock wall. They determined that this must be the drawings of an ancient indian civilization.

We posed for one more shot and continued onward and upward.

Soon we reached the summit. We stopped long enough for Sydney to do her business in the nearby woods and then continued on.

On the way down the kiddos were beginning to tire down. Sydney was having fun passing the time with small trail runs. She took one mis-step and fell down scrapping her knees. She was not alone, Dad also tumbled a couple times and banged up his arm. Reagan however was a pro. This child who is usually our whiner was doing great. She was really tiring down as well but she motored on. She was awesome! A fun family adventure. Yet, Mount Sanitas remains a nemesis in Mom’s book! Until next time.

Permalink Spring Break 2011

Today is the last day of our Spring Break. Usually we can be found playing on a beach somewhere warm but this year we decided to stay home and spend a few days at the cabin. Anything to do with the cabin is fun for the girls so while they talked about Mexico a lot, I know they enjoyed themselves. In the rush of getting out of the house I forgot to grab the camera. So no new pics but here are a few random shots of our very own Winter Wonderland taken over the last few months.

We weren’t sure what to expect weather wise for this trip given that it was almost April. We knew there would still be lots of snow up in Leadville, but what we didn’t expect were the two blizzards during the week. The first would occur on our drive up. Not too bad everywhere except around the tunnel which always gets the worst of things. Our days in Leadville were beautiful and warm (50’s) giving us a lot of snowmelt. Then just as we got into the car for the drive home the big one hit. White out conditions and ice. By the time we hit Dillon I-70 had been closed and there was no where to go. We had lunch and shopped around for a good 4 hours. Then sat in our car for another 30 minutes waiting for 70 to open up. Better then being stopped for metering on the highway in your car for hours. But, looking forward to summer traffic once again.
