Ancestor Detector

REagan is starting on her ancestor detector badge for American Heritage Girls. This is still one of Sydney’s favorite completed badges so Reagan was eager to begin. One of the requirements is that you visit a local cemetery and try to find a list of different items. Since Leadville is such an old mountain town we figured it would have better finds then Longmont. Boy were we right! The cemetery here is literally like walking on marshmallows. The ground literally bounces. We can’t figure out if its just the type of earth or what. But it made for an interesting day as many stones were falling apart or sinking into the earth. We half expected to see bones popping out of the ground.

We were on the lookout for items such as oldest gravestone…

Signs of damage…This one was so old it was made of wood.

Most unusual gravestone…
