Over the past week, we had a scare with Reagan. She had been sick on and off for the week prior. This weakened her immune system. Then a virus came through Colorado kids this week and that was enough to knock her down.
She started breathing very hard and erratically so we got her over to the ER to see what was going on. Her oxygen levels were really low.
Reagan was admitted late on Monday night. Got a big room with a cool hospital bed to relax in. The bad news was that she was going to be hooked up to machines for a few days. Its not fun to be tethered to anything when you are kid.
Gifts and flowers came in from family and friends and that surely eased the situation. Every knock on the door then became either a visit from the nurse or some new surprise being delivered.
Ask a kid if they want to play iPad and 3DS all day long and they will say sure! But when you actually get to, it wears off after a while. Reagan kept busy but surely missed the chance to go outside and run around.
Reagan’s friends from her old school sent over a stuffed horse which was a big boost. She misses them while at her new school but it was great to know they were thinking of her.
After school got out each day, friends would come by to visit. Reagan enjoyed the attention and bit of normalcy as familiar faces perked her up. Most of the kids kept wanting to stay but Reagan said she would switch places with them instantly for the chance to go outside and run around.
We had a furry visitor come by one day. The therapy dogs make the rounds and stopped by. This guy was super food focused so he would do any tricks his human asked of him. We joked about our dogs taking this role and how Lizzy would probably just jump on the bed with patients.
Reagan got the hang of room service. She would call and order whatever she needed. I played a trick on her and gave her the Spanish menu the first time and she started crying. “I just started taking Spanish and we haven’t learned food yet!”, she cried. Sorry, here is English. They even could make noodles just the way she likes them — plain.
Finally, Reagan is back home and resting. But she has enough energy to build things — like the R2D2 she got back on her birthday. Plenty of time to assemble this masterpiece!
Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and wishes on Facebook. We posted as we went over there. Just doing this wrap up post here for posterity.
